Sri Lanka ’22 – First Report

Westside family, Things are going well here in Sri Lanka. We were able to get diesel fuel for the vehicle today.  We are thankful for the prayer support of you all at Westside.  Today the BUD Centre is open for children from the area to come.  That means that Tyler and I will be working with the kids on their English as a second language.  Please, remember to pray for Nish and Kristin and their family as they ramp up their service to the children. Now that they’re open there is a huge demand and a lot of children that want to come.   It will...

BUD Centre – February Update

We hope and pray that your 2022 year is off to a good start. We finished off the year with our Christmas hampers and started out the year prayerfully seeking the Lord for direction and fresh vision. There is something about freshness and the feeling of new beginning at the start of a year. We know the circumstances in the world around us are far from ideal but we are choosing to look at things with hope in God who is faithful in all circumstances. We want to take a moment to express the appreciation we have for all of the love, care and support we...

Merry Christmas from Sri Lanka

Merry Christmas The word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 We have much to be thankful for this Christmas. Thankful for family, friends, community, opportunities, health, safety, and hope in Jesus. Though the year has had its set of challenges His grace and truth was at the forefront. We are so thankful for your love, care, support and prayer throughout this last year. It has meant so much to us. Also an extra special thanks to all who supported this years Christmas...

Kandangama October Report

October 2020 Update From the Kandangama’s @ the Bud Centre Sri Lanka Greetings to you all! We hope and pray that this fall season has been filled with thankfulness. That the blessings in our lives overshadow all the negative circumstances in our world. I think we can all collectively agree that serving a God who is above all things, gives us much to be thankful for and find hope in. On that note, as a family we are thankful for our health, home, family, support, and God’s ever present help. Here is a look at what’s new and happening in and through our lives. We share because we...

Perplexed

March 15, 2020 Update —— “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair …” 2 Corinthians 4:8 I think the word “perplexed” is a pretty accurate way of summing up our feelings this week.  You know, perplexed … mildly puzzled. Things are changing so fast throughout the world it’s really hard to keep our feet on solid ground.  Ah, but then there’s the last part of that statement … “but not in despair”. Yes! Perplexed, but not in despair! That too is an accurate portrayal of our feelings at this time. ANOTHER FULL WEEK  Setting aside for the moment...

Except Fear Itself

March 7, 2020 Update — What should I title this blog post?  How about “Finding Our Way”? Maybe “Galilee of the Nations”?  That’s pretty good but let’s try this … “Except Fear Itself”. Interesting Times  It has been an “interesting” week both here in Israel and around the world.  This brings to mind that old Chinese curse … “may you live in interesting times, come to the attention of those in authority and have the gods give everything you desire”.  No, it hasn’t been a terrible, horrible, awful week but it has been “interesting”. I suppose everything here is “interesting” compared to the “same old, same...

Why Are We Here?

February 29, 2020 Update: As we approached our time here in Israel many friends spoke to us encouragingly, some gave us Bible verses they believed related to what we were going to do. As I was leaving the last Westside Family Fellowship Elders meeting before our flight, Bob Alspaugh took me aside and told me he believed we were going forth as ambassadors. Yes, ambassadors.  Representatives of the leadership of one nation to the leadership of another. Since we arrived here we’ve heard “ambassadors” many times in a variety of contexts. Of course, as Christians, we do represent a nation or people in the midst of...

What We’ve Learned

February 23, 2020 Update ———————– We’ve been on our own here in Tiberias for one week.  Only the occasional local to help us when we couldn’t understand something.  Finding that local isn’t always easy since English isn’t as common here as it is in other parts of Israel. What have we learned in Tiberias? Sidewalks are for parking on. Double-parking is a necessity. Parking wherever you can fit is normal.  We saw a small car approach a parking spot that was too small so he turned his car sideways and backed in because he fit that way.   Traffic lights flash yellow to warn that a red...

Happy New Year! Greetings from Kandangama’s

Newsletter January 2020 Watch Video Report from Kristin here. Happy New Year! We are excited to bring to you our much anticipated update on our Christmas events. I know the festive season has passed and we have all started our year with new goals and plans. But I want to just take a bit of time to share about our trip to Canada, our Christmas and what’s happening now. Our family had a good time throughout our 4 months in Canada. We traveled somewhere between 25 to 30,000 kilometers in that time. We connected to every church that supports us and some new ones. Plus we connected with friends...
